In 1923 Sister Clemmie Spearman a member of Fairfield C.M.E. Church - Newborn, Georgia and Sister Salema Thomas - a member of Prospect C.M.E. Church in Monticello, Georgia started a C.M.E. Church in Covington. The Church was located on Robinson Street under the guidance of Rev. N. H. Wiggins. It was named Williams Temple.
A storm blew the church down. A new church was built. Rev. J. E. Murray was the presiding elder and after his death the name was changed to Murray Memorial C.M.E. Church.

Charles King, Rev. H. W. Wilson, Rev. E. D. Compton, Rev. Katheryn S. Hazel, Rev. Christopher Waller, Rev. Michael L. Perkins, Rev. Jerry D. Woodfork Sr., Rev. Richard Johnson, Rev. Our Past presiding elders were: Elder Wiggins, Elder Murray, Elder Denson, Elder S. H. Harris, Elder G. C. Jay, Elder J. N. Rushin, Elder R. B. Shorts, Elder L. W. Jay, Elder D. L. Gorham, Elder, L. L. Napier and Elder Holsey McRae. Our Present Elder is Dr. Jerry D. Woodfork, Sr.
Our Past Bishops were: Bishop William Y. Bell, Bishop P. R. Shy, Bishop J.C. Cole, Bishop Arthur W. Womack, Bishop Williams, Bishop James A. Hamlett, Bishop Othal H. Lakey, our Present Bishop Kenneth Wayne Carter, Presiding Prelate.
